The Hiroshima Panels and Their Travels: 1950–2025 at KOGANEI ART SPOT

An exhibition titled The Hiroshima Panels and Their Travels: 1950–2025 will be held at the gallery on the 2nd-floor of KOGANEI ART SPOT Chateau in Koganei City, Tokyo. The Maruki Gallery will loan a full-scale replica of the first panel, Ghosts, as well as archival materials from the 1950s and personal belongings of Maruki Iri and Maruki Toshi. The key visual for the exhibition is a woodblock print created by a university student, designed to resemble posters from the 1950s.

The Hiroshima Panels and Their Travels: 1950–2025

This year, 80 years after the atomic bombing, this exhibition is held with the cooperation of the Maruki Gallery for the Hiroshima Panels. It features a finely exquisite full-scale replica of the first panel, Ghosts, by Maruki Iri and Maruki Toshi, posters of the national travelling exhibitions that began in the 1950s, and items related to the artists. The aim is to connect these works with various social issues today. Using the Hiroshima Panels and the history of their travels as motifs, the exhibition seeks to embody resistance against war and discrimination – especially now, in 2025.
